Joint seminar with the Department of Biochemistry & Molecular Biophysics.
Please note that this seminar will start at 4 pm and be held in VC 201
We are thrilled to host Dr. Rotem Sorek (Weizmann Institute) for an in-person/hybrid seminar this Wednesday (Feb. 2) at 4:00pm, in the Vagelos Center, Room 201. Dr. Samuel Sternberg of the Department of Biochemistry & Molecular Biophysics is hosting this seminar in collaboration with the Department of Microbiology & Immunology.
In recent years, Rotem's lab has pioneered the discovery of dozens of new antiviral defense systems in bacteria, substantially expanding our understanding of the mechanistic and functional diversity that immune systems evolved within this genetic conflict. Remarkably, Rotem's work further revealed that many of these immune systems represent the ancient origins of similar immune systems in higher eukaryotes, including gasdermins, TIR domains, viperins, cGAS-STING, and more. Thus, Rotem's talk will be of interest for immunologists, microbiologists, geneticists, and biochemists alike. Rotem is a fantastic speaker and scientist, and I strongly encourage you and your lab members to attend to his talk.
This seminar will he held in person, but online Zoom attendance is also supported.
When: Wednesday, February 2, 4pm
