The 2009 Microbiology & Immunology Annual Retreat
The Department of Microbiology & Immunology will hold its annual retreat on September 10 and 11, 2009 at the IBM Palisades Conference Center in Palisades, NY. Information on the facilities and directions may be found here: http://www.dolce-ibm-palisades.com/
We are grateful that Dr. Thomas D. Pollard, the Sterling Professor and Chairman of the Department of Molecular, Cellular & Developmental Biology at Yale University will be our guest and will present the keynote lecture. Dr. Pollard is a world-renowned authority on cellular motility and cytokinesis. He is a member of the National Academy of Sciences and winner of numerous prizes and honors, including the 2006 Gairdner Award.
Also speaking at this year's retreat will be Dr. Megan Sykes, who has been recruited to Columbia as a Professor of Medicine and Microbiology & Immunology. She will be the Director of Bone Marrow Transplantation Research and Director of a new Center for Translational Immunology at the medical center. Dr. Sykes is currently the Harold and Ellen Danser Professor of Surgery and Professor of Medicine at Harvard Medical School and Massachusetts General Hospital.
All departmental faculty, students and postdoctoral fellows are encouraged to attend. The retreat begins on early Thursday afternoon and lasts until late Friday afternoon. There will be four sessions of 10 to 15 minute research talks presented by faculty, and a poster session presented by students and postdoctoral fellows.
